An often overlooked fact of Oregon sports history is that in 1916 the Portland Rosebuds hockey team became the first U.S. squad to play for the Stanley Cup (they lost to the Montreal Canadiens). The Rosebuds, also known as the Portland Uncle Sams, played in the Pacific Coast Hockey Association (PCHA) and eventually became the Chicago Black Hawks of the National Hockey League. The key image in this gallery is a 1914-1915 Portland Rosebuds hockey team postcard. The postcard portrays large player photos and smaller inset images of the team and its arena. The small images are hard to see, so each was scanned for display here.
